Pre-Care Instructions

Proper preparation is the foundation of beautiful, long-lasting permanent makeup results. Following these guidelines will help ensure optimal pigment retention and a smooth healing process.

! 24–72 Hours Before Your Appointment

Avoid Physical Activity

  • No exercise for 24 hours before your procedure
  • Elevated heart rate increases blood flow to the skin, which can affect pigment retention
  • Light walking is fine, but avoid anything that causes sweating

Avoid Blood Thinners

To minimize bleeding during your procedure and ensure the best pigment absorption, avoid the following for 48–72 hours before your appointment:

  • Caffeine — Coffee, tea, energy drinks, soda
  • Alcohol — Wine, beer, spirits
  • Pain relievers — Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve)
  • Supplements — Fish oil, vitamin E, omega-3s

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is acceptable if needed.

4w 4 Weeks Before Your Appointment

Brow Care (For Brow Procedures)

  • No tweezing, threading, or waxing — I need to see your natural hair growth pattern to create the most flattering shape
  • No brow tinting, dye, or lamination — Any previous color must be completely faded
  • Allow your brows to grow in naturally

Skincare Products to Discontinue

Stop using the following products on and around the treatment area:

  • Retinol and retinoids — Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene, and all retinol serums
  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) — Glycolic acid, lactic acid
  • Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) — Salicylic acid
  • Vitamin C serums — In high concentrations
  • Exfoliating products — Physical or chemical exfoliants

These products thin the skin and can affect how pigment is retained. Do not resume use until fully healed (typically 4–6 weeks post-procedure).

Treatments to Avoid

  • Chemical peels — Any strength
  • Microdermabrasion — Or dermaplaning
  • Laser treatments — On or near the treatment area
  • Intense facials — Extractions, microneedling, or aggressive treatments
  • Tanning — Sun exposure or tanning beds (tanned skin does not retain pigment as well)

2m 2 Months Before Your Appointment

Injectable Treatments (For Brow & Eye Procedures)

  • No Botox near the brow or forehead area
  • No fillers near the treatment area
  • No cosmetic surgeries near the brows or eyes

Botox affects muscle movement and brow positioning. I need to see your natural expressions to create the most flattering, symmetrical shape for your face.

The Day of Your Appointment

Do:

  • Arrive with a clean face — no makeup on the treatment area
  • Eat a light meal beforehand (low blood sugar can increase discomfort)
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Bring any required medical clearance documentation
  • Arrive on time (not early, not late)

Don't:

  • Apply makeup to the treatment area
  • Wear false lashes (for eyeliner procedures)
  • Bring additional guests (except a translator if needed)
